Verde Ditch is an agricultural diversion that can easily divert all the water in the river, and boaters may inadvertently end up navigating in the ditch itself. Navigating the ditch can be hazardous. A boater who finds themselves in the ditch may paddle up toward the headgate and attempt to return to the river through the spillway, but this should not be attempted by a novice or inexperienced paddler.
In summertime, it may take a significant amount of flows on the Verde River. Boaters may end up boating the ditch rather than the river.
