Eagle County Open Space celebrated the Grand Opening of Duck Pond Open Space on Earth Day. Duck Pond Open Space is 55 acres, with 0.7 river miles that will be managed for outdoor recreation and habitat preservation, and features some new amenities, including a boat ramp, parking area, and restroom facility.
The Duck Ponds Open Space is a great asset for communities in Gypsum, Eagle and Dotsero, and the new improvements will make it even more accessible. The Eagle Valley Regional Trail runs along the north boundary of the parcel and the new boat ramp opens up a new stretch of river for boaters wanting to take out before Rodeo Rapid just down river from the Duck Ponds. The vault toilet and expanded parking area increase day use opportunities for picnicking, fishing, hiking, and relaxing by the river. Duck hunting will be allowed on the eastern boundary along the river only. Now that construction is finished, restoration projects are underway to restore the natural beauty of the area and protect the river corridor. Hope to see you there enjoying this and other Open Spaces along the Eagle River Blue Trail.
