Not only do they connect towns with their rivers, streams and surrounding lands, but they also enhance the local quality of life through positive impacts to health, economy and environment. Earlier this year, Headwaters Economics released the Trails Benefits Library, a comprehensive database of studies on the positive impacts of trails, especially in small or medium-sized towns and rural areas. My brother Drew is learning to fly fish as part of his recovery from a back injury he sustained skiing this winter. Eagle County Open Space celebrated the Grand Opening of Duck Pond Open Space on Earth Day. Duck Pond Open Space is 55 acres, with 0.7 river miles that will be managed for outdoor recreation and habitat preservation, and features some new amenities, including a boat ramp, parking area, and restroom facility.
